Chubbie by name, but certainly not be nature... petite teenager Emily Gilbert stunned all during the opening day of DVLA Personalised Registrations' autumn auction by buying the private plate CHU 88IE.
The 16-year-old, who will not be able to drive for another year, out bid her rivals to win the registration with £3,600 of her father's money!
The A-Level student, affectionately known by family and friends as "Chubbie" - a moniker harping back to being an oversized toddler - travelled to Dormy House Hotel in the Cotswolds in order to grab her prize and add to the family collection.
And despite being daunted by the sum, her property developer father, Roger, was ecstatic by his daughters' cool head under pressure together with her tenacity and determination.
He said: "I'm a huge fan of personalised registrations and have at least 10 to my name most of which have been bought as great investments. I've promised all my children one made up of their initials for when they take to the roads, but with Emily's initials spelling EG, she didn't want to be known as one and so desperately wanted her nickname and CHU 88IE is just perfect."
He added: "We had a limit, Emily knew it, but still kept her nerve when the price ebbed up. Winning it was all her own doing, however paying for it is down to me!"
Emily - or CHU 88IE - added: "I'm absolutely delighted, I just can't wait to get it on a car of my own. It will make so many people laugh. Everyone who knows me refers to me a Chubbie, I find it hilarious."
