While the two "star" plates - 3 O and 7 T - will undoubtedly grab the headlines for collectively amassing £144,306, bargain hunters were also successful in snapping some plates at their reserve prices or slightly higher.
This is the real successes of the latest DVLA Personalised Registration three-day auction in which the agency surpassed its £3.1 million target.
A007 SPY, heralded as one of the last great James Bond-related plates left in DVLA's war chest, was bought for £6,755 while HOT 71P went for £1,800 - double its £900 reserve.
Damian Lawson, DVLA Personalised Registrations Marketing Manager, said: "Our latest auction will go down as the one for bargain hunters. While we celebrated successes with high prices being paid for numerous plates like 3 0 and 7 T together with scores of plates which broke the £10,000 barrier, investors and speculators with an eye for a bargain came to the right place."
