Mystery surrounds the buyer behind the A007 SPY plate sold during the first hour of DVLA Personalised Registrations' three-day auction being held in Cheshire this week.
The man bought A007 SPY with a winning bid of £6,755 including taxes and VAT - seven times its £900 reserve - when the plate came under the hammer at Wychwood Park, Crewe, this morning.
The registration symbolises the huge array of fun-plates among the 1,600 being auctioned. Indeed, horse racing fanatics and gamblers wanting to show off their skills should look no further than HOT 71P which goes under the gavel on Thursday.
While both registrations typify the array of comical registrations on offer, 3 O, which will be sold at exactly 8.50am on Friday, will arguably be the event's "star" plate - especially considering 1 O and 2 O were sold earlier this year for £210,242 and £142,249 respectively.
