DVLA'S FAR EASTERN DELIGHT!
Wednesday, 18 November 2009
DVLA Personalised Registrations' final three-day auction of the year, which gets underway on December 2, will have a certain oriental feel.
Twenty three Thai delegates will visit Tankersley Manor, near Barnsley, as part of a fact finding assignment to the UK to learn more about how the Agency annually generates millions of pounds from the sale of private registrations.
DVLA Personalised Registrations - a hugely successful commercial division of the Driver Vehicle Licensing Agency - has long been regarded as a global phenomenon and has been the envy of various countries around the world with the French, Canadian and American governments, to name three, making regular contact to discover exactly how it operates.
Now in its 20th year, through its use of telesales, on-line sales and auctions, the Agency has sold more than three million private registrations. Its interactive website - dvlaregistrations.direct.gov.uk - is heralded as one of the leading automotive websites in the UK, attracting more than 800,000 visits every month.
At the Tankersley Manor event, the sixth of the year, there are high expectations surrounding the registration 6 O among the 1,500 being auctioned. At the Autumn auction, 5 O was sold for £87,853.75, taking the total spent on the O-series - 1 O, 2 0, 3 O, 4 O and 5 O - released to mark DVLA Personalised Registrations' 20th anniversary - to a whopping £566,344.
Damian Lawson, DVLA Personalised Registrations' Marketing Manager, said: "Where the sale of personalised registrations is concerned, we really do lead the world".
"We have cultivated a desirable market which is hugely popular with motorists. The fact our division is hugely profitable for the nation has forced other countries to take note which is why they want to come and learn from us".
It is illegal to misrepresent a vehicle registration on a number plate. The rules governing their correct display can be found at: dvlaregistrations.direct.gov.uk/home/en/FAQ/
