Millionaire Steve O'Conner put his money where his mouth is and 'snapped' up the ultimate tribute to world renown trucking company Eddie Stobart - by buying the personalised registration ST08 ART!
The Cheshire-based businessman, who has a five per cent shareholding in the internationally acclaimed Stobart Group and holds the position of Executive Director in charge of its Ports Division, paid £43,348.75 for the plate. He also bought two other registrations, unlinked to the Stobart name, taking his total spending spree to £64,215.
The sale of ST08 ART ensured spending continued right to the end of the three-day summer auction staged by DVLA Personalised Registrations. The highest price paid for a plate was £86,617.50 for 1 PNE. 24-year-old Ghanim al-Kuwari, a member of a Qatar diplomatic family, paid £63,128.75 for the auction's "star" registration, 4 O, while 6 W completed a very successful sale, going for a total of £63,073.75.
Damian Lawson, DVLA Personalised Registrations Marketing Manager, said: "The summer auction has been a terrific success. Breaking the £3 million barrier is always a great achievement, but to manage it in this tough economic climate makes it all the more satisfying. This goes to prove that the demand for personalised registrations continues to be extremely strong."
It is illegal to misrepresent a vehicle registration on a number plate. The rules governing their correct display can be found at: dvlaregistrations.direct.gov.uk/home/en/FAQ/
