Double delight for biker
Thursday, 2 July 2009
“The icing on the cake…” That was Carlisle biker Michael Horbowsky’s response when told he’d won a personalised registration – for a brand new motorbike he’d scooped in a national competition.
The 57-year-old was delighted to discover he’d won a Kawasaki ZX6 sportsbike courtesy of West Sussex-based P&H Motorcycles and his perfect private plate – MR09 MPH - provided by DVLA Personalised Registrations in a competition staged in conjunction with Britain’s leading motorcycling publication, MCN.
Amazingly, the 57-year-old of Glebe Close, Dalston, only entered the competition at the Scottish Motorcycle Show earlier this year after deciding to go along with friends in order to “fill the car”. Now he’s the proud owner of the £7,500 machine and registration worth £785.
Damian Lawson, DVLA Personalised Registrations’ Marketing Manager, said: “Most motorists buy personalised registrations for their cars, Mr Horbowsky can now join the growing ranks of bikers who are adding that personal touch to their machines.”
He added: “We’ve witnessed a huge rise in the popularity of personalised registrations throughout the biking community over the past few years, this competition has added one more!”
Mr Horbowsky, a biker for more than 40 years, said: “I’ve never considered a private plate for my motorbike before, but winning one is the icing on the cake. Choosing one to fit with my initials was a breeze thanks to DVLA’s website. It certainly completes one special prize.”
It is illegal to misrepresent a vehicle registration on a number plate. The rules governing their correct display can be found at: dvlaregistrations.direct.gov.uk/home/en/FAQ/
