What are News Feeds?

News Feeds, commonly known as RSS - or Really Simple Syndication to use its full title - are systems designed to be read by computers rather than people which allow subscribers to see when websites have added new content. Users can get the latest headlines and video in one place, as soon as they're published, without visiting the websites they've taken the feed from.

How do I start using feeds?

In general, the first thing needed is a news reader, a piece of software that checks the feeds and lets you read news articles. There are many different types of readers, some of which are accessed online, some are downloadable applications and most modern web browsers now include readers within them.

If you would like the latest DVLA Personalised Registrations stories, follow the steps below:

1. Use/install a reader

Use one of the links on the right to download an RSS reader, RSS compatible web browser or register with one of the online readers.

2. Subscribe within your reader

Online Readers
If you are using an online reader such as Bloglines or Google Reader use the following address when asked for the 'RSS feed url/address': http://dvlaregistrations.direct.gov.uk/home/en/Rss

Windows/Mac Readers
If you download and install a reader for your Windows PC or Mac you can usually enter the following address when asked for the 'RSS feed url/address': http://dvlaregistrations.direct.gov.uk/home/en/Rss

Web Browser-based Readers
If you have a modern web browser such as Mozilla Firefox 3 or Internet Explorer 7/8 you can subscribe to the feed within the browser itself by visiting the DVLA Personalised Registrations home page and click on the orange RSS logo button in or near your address bar. Alternatively you can subscribe by clicking the large orange RSS icon below:

3. Be kept up to date

Now you've subscribed, our news updates will be automatically updated within your chosen reader, keeping you up to date with everything DVLA Personalised Registrations.
