Depending on the age of your vehicle, there may be restrictions to what registrations would be suitable for use on your vehicle. This is very important to note before making your choice.
Where the personalised registration number has an age identifier (i.e. current style, prefix and suffix numbers see What style of registration number do you offer for sale?), you can only put that number onto a vehicle of equal age or newer. For example, if you purchase a 62 current style registration, it can only go onto a vehicle that was first registered as new on or after 1st September 2012. Please see the table below which shows the original issue dates of registration numbers.
In order to have a personalised registration number assigned to your vehicle, the vehicle must be
We will ask you for your details so that we can record you as the Purchaser of the registration number. If the vehicle you want to put the number onto is not registered in your name, you can give a different name as the Nominee. If you are adding a Nominee to your purchase, make sure it matches the name of the registered keeper of the vehicle you want to put the number onto.

No. The DVLA did consider selling Q prefix registrations for use only on Q registered vehicles but due to the associated costs, it was decided not to proceed. A review of registration inspection procedures also indicated very strong support for retaining the existing policy on Q registrations, for consumer protection reasons.
The price shown is not negotiable. Online prices start at just £250, which includes VAT and DVLA fees. Some registrations are priced higher if they contain or resemble names, words, car makes or models, etc.
Price reductions are occasionally introduced when we feel it is appropriate. We do not consider individual requests.
There are no additional charges on personalised registration numbers bought at a fixed price through this website. The price includes VAT and DVLA fees, so the price shown is the final price you pay.
For registration numbers being offered for sale at a DVLA Auction, the bidding starts at a fixed reserve price that does not include the buyer's premium, VAT or DVLA fees. These additional fees will be added to the final 'hammer price'. Our auction catalogues include a detailed breakdown of the costs for you to know what the final price will be.
The DVLA does not supply the actual plates to be attached to your vehicle. These can be purchased separately from motor part retailers who must be a registered number plate supplier; they will ensure the plates are made to the correct legal standard. The DVLA holds several auctions each year, containing approximately 1500 registration numbers in each auction. There are two types of auction called 'Traditional' and 'Timed' auctions.
The more widely sought after registrations are sold at Traditional auctions, which are held at specially selected venues throughout the UK. Click here to view this year's auction calendar.
Timed auctions are held three or four times a year, and contain many registrations specifically requested by the public.
You can search for previously sold auction registrations and view the hammer price by clicking 'Auction' at the top of the page and then clicking 'Auction sold search'.
